Breast Lift Overview

Enhance Beauty and Well-Being

In many cases, a breast lift in Austin with our skilled surgeons has the ability to not only correct the appearance of the breasts, but may also greatly improve a woman’s health and help her feel better. Because of this, a breast lift is one of the most satisfying procedures available for a woman.

What is a breast lift?

A breast lift surgery, also called a mastopexy, rejuvenates and uplifts sagging breasts and nipples to restore a youthful contour. A breast list achieves perkier, firmer breasts by removing excess skin and tissue and raising the breasts higher on the chest wall. A breast lift may also address downward-pointing nipples, ultimately achieving more appealing breasts that tilt upward attractively.

What are the benefits of a breast lift in Austin?

For many women, the desire for a breast lift comes as the breasts begin to sag. This can be a result of pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight loss, or simple aging. A mastopexy can improve sagging breasts and provide a perkier, firmer, more attractive appearance. A breast lift isn’t about making breasts larger; rather, the procedure focuses on lifting and shaping the breasts and/or areolae to be more proportional and balanced, which can also help with back and neck pain.

A breast lift can:

  • Restore shape after pregnancy and nursing
  • Restore shape after weight loss
  • Achieve perkiness for sagging breasts
  • Achieve shapely, appealing areolae
  • Achieve upward tilting, attractive nipples
  • Improve breast proportion and symmetry
  • Ultimately provide youthful, lifted breasts

There are many indicators that a breast lift may be very beneficial to you. You may look and feel much better after a mastopexy in Austin if:

What can I expect from the Breast Lift procedure?

Your Initial Consultation

During your consultation for a mastopexy, Dr. Linville will discuss your medical history, lifestyle, body type, and personal aesthetic goals to determine the ideal procedure technique and incision placement for you.

Other factors that will be taken into consideration include your breast size and shape, your skin quality and elasticity, how much breast sagging you have, how much excess skin you have, and the size and position of your areolas. If you have concerns about scars, Dr. Linville will discuss this with you during your consultation as well.

Surgical Procedure

By removing stretched-out skin, re-shaping the breast tissue, and lifting the areola and nipple, Dr. Linville can achieve a more sculpted and attractive contour. The procedure uses general anesthesia and typically takes two to three hours (unless it is being performed along with a breast augmentation or breast reduction).

Dr. Linville will make incisions, remove expendable skin, and lift the breast tissue to a higher chest position. The natural breast tissue is then reshaped to achieve a perkier and firmer appearance. The areola and nipple are also repositioned to an area that is balanced with the breasts. Often, enlarged areolas are reduced in size, and excess breast skin is removed to achieve a more toned look. After this, the remaining skin is tightened as the incisions are closed.

What are my other breast lift options?

Patients who would like another option for a mastopexy may choose from the following:

Breast Lift with BodyTite

Many breast lift patients who want the benefits of the surgery without the actual surgery choose the BodyTite™ method, a non-surgical option for a breast lift procedure. BodyTite uses radiofrequency assisted lipolysis to tighten and raise sagging breast tissue at the same time, and is minimally invasive (no scars, and little downtime). The treatment is performed under general or local anesthesia, and requires only tiny incisions in the breasts, through which the BodyTite wand is inserted to tighten and lift the tissue.

Breast Lift with Augmentation

Many of our Austin patients choose to add a breast augmentation to their breast lift in Austin. While the lift alone elevates the nipple and areola and removes excess skin, a breast lift with augmentation will restore youthful volume to the area. When combining these two transformative procedures, you can enhance your cup size and sculpt a more youthful figure.

Incisions for breast lift surgery in Austin

For mastopexy, Dr. Chris Schneider and Dr. Alex Pong typically choose either the vertical incision or the anchor incision. With a vertical lift, one incision is created encircling the areola, while a second incision runs from the areola down to the breast crease. With an anchor lift, the incision encircles the areola, runs down vertically to the breast crease, and then runs horizontally along the inframammary fold, creating the appearance of a ship’s anchor. You will meet with your provider for a detailed consultation, during which the best incision approach for your unique anatomy, goals, and concerns will be assessed.

What is the Breast Lift Recovery Like?

After your mastopexy procedure, you will be given a surgical bra to help support your breasts. The majority of patients take a week off from work (three if the job is physically demanding). During that week, patients commonly experience soreness, tenderness, bleeding, and swelling. A small percentage of patients also experience tightness or skin numbness around the incision site(s). Avoid any added pressure on your chest, as well as sleeping on your stomach. Heavy lifting and strenuous exercise should be avoided for two to three weeks post-surgery.

What are the Risks of Getting a Breast Lift?

Although breast lift surgery is typically safe and achieves the desired results, it's important to consider potential risks. As with any surgical procedure, there are inherent risks related to anesthesia, bleeding, infection, and potential alterations in nipple sensation. These factors underscore the importance of thorough consultation and preparation with your surgeon to ensure a safe and successful outcome.

Additionally, there is a possibility of scarring, asymmetry, or changes in breast shape. However, it's essential to remember that these risks are relatively rare, and by choosing a skilled and experienced surgeon, following post-operative care instructions, and maintaining regular follow-up appointments, the likelihood of experiencing these complications can be minimized.

Will my nipples be moved during my breast lift surgery?

Yes, during a breast lift surgery, your nipples may be repositioned to achieve a more youthful and balanced appearance of the breasts.

Who should not consider a breast lift?
