Asian eyelid surgery is a cosmetic procedure designed to create a natural-looking crease in the upper eyelid, resulting in a larger, more symmetrical appearance. Because Asian eyelid surgery is a specialized procedure, it must be performed by an experienced surgeon who understands the unique anatomy of Asian eyelids. Our surgeons can help maintain your ethnic identity while achieving the enhancements you desire.

What Is Asian Eyelid Surgery?

Asian eyelid surgery surgically creates a fold in the upper eyelid and/or reduces excess tissue along the eyelid. This procedure does not change the shape of the eyes or erase the characteristics that mark your heritage but instead enhances your eyes to make them more defined, larger, and better balanced with the other features of the face.

What are the benefits of Asian Eyelid Surgery?

This cosmetic surgery achieves many benefits for patients who would like to improve and enhance their eyes, including the following:

  • More open eyes
  • Natural-looking, larger eyes
  • Refreshed appearance
  • Eliminated vision impairment (for patients who had excess skin interfering with vision)
  • Achieves a more youthful appearance
  • Reduces sagging

Am I a candidate?

Patients who are unhappy with their eyelids but would like their surgery to preserve their natural heritage are usually candidates for this procedure. Your surgeon will examine your eyes and understand your goals for enhancement, then determine if you are a candidate.

Ideal candidates generally meet the following requirements:

  • Are in good health overall, with no serious medical conditions
  • Do not smoke
  • Have no eye infections or inflammation around the eyes
  • Have realistic expectations about what Asian Eyelid Surgery can accomplish

What can I expect during the procedure?

Typically, Asian eyelid surgeries are performed under local anesthesia, taking 1-2 hours in total.

During surgery, precise incisions are made at the natural curve of the eyelid. These incisions are used to sculpt the eyelids, creating a natural eyelid crease and better definition. Sagging, hooded eyelid skin, and wrinkles can also be addressed, depending on your needs and custom surgical plan. Once the surgery is complete, your incisions are closed with absorbable sutures or biological glue.

Recovery

After your eyelid surgery is complete, you will likely need to rest and recover for about a week before returning to work and usual activities. Bruising and swelling will occur during this week and begin to ease after a few days.

You may wear glasses the day after your surgery, but wait for 10-14 days before you wear contacts again. Strenuous exercise can be resumed after 2-4 weeks with approval from your surgeon.
