As you grow older, your neck can start losing its elasticity and develop considerable weight due to accumulated fat tissue. Having a large and bulbous neck with a double chin can begin to drastically affect your confidence and quality of life. Neck liposuction in Austin is a simple procedure to remove that excess fat tissue from your neck, to return to or maintain a slimmer, more slender and more youthful contour. At Austin Face & Body, we carefully examine your submental (neck) skin and fatty tissue to personalize liposuction to your specific needs.

What is neck liposuction?

Neck liposuction, also called submental liposuction, is a procedure that suctions out excessive fat tissues from the neck region. Liposuction is a procedure in which the fat tissues are broken down using a tube-like device called a cannula, and vacuumed out of your body, making your neck look slender and graceful.

What happens during the neck liposuction consultation?

During your consultation, your cosmetic surgeon will examine your skin type and neck condition. They will ask you about your expectations, cosmetic goals, and medical history to determine your treatment options. The doctor will determine if you’re a suitable candidate for neck liposuction in Austin, and personalize a treatment plan for your specific needs.

What happens during the neck liposuction procedure?

Neck liposuction is an outpatient procedure performed under local anesthesia, so you don’t feel any pain or discomfort, and you can return home soon after the procedure. After administering local anesthesia, the doctor will make a tiny incision (less than two millimeters long) below the chin or behind the ears. The doctor will insert a slender tube called a cannula inside the incision to break down the fat tissues and vacuum suction them out of your body. As much fat tissue as is necessary to contour your neck and remove a “double chin” will be removed. Once sufficient fat tissues are removed, the surgeon will remove the cannula and suture the incisions carefully.

What is recovery from neck liposuction like?

After the neck liposuction procedure, you’ll have to wear a light head-wrap or chin strap for a few days to minimize swelling. You’ll have to regularly wear the compression garment for at least one week to ensure a smooth recovery. The doctor will also instruct you to remain upright to facilitate smooth healing and recovery. You may feel a little discomfort, but no significant pain.

Avoid strenuous activities and heavy work for the first week of your recovery. You can resume most of your daily activities after the sutures and compression garments are removed. The results of a liposuction procedure can even last a lifetime, but only if you maintain your weight. For best results and to ensure the smoothest recovery, carefully follow your doctor’s postoperative guidelines.
