Bring Balance To The Face With Rhinoplasty

The nose is such a prominent part of the face that it can cause an individual to dislike their entire appearance if they are unhappy with it. As a facial feature that’s at the front and center, the nose should bring balance to the face. We can accomplish this with a rhinoplasty in Austin, one of our specialty surgeries.

What is rhinoplasty?

The nose attracts the gaze because of its central location among the features. Even a very small imperfection can throw off the balance of the entire face. Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure to adjust the nasal bridge, tip, and nostrils while simultaneously correcting the internal structure of the nose to optimize breathing. Straightening a crooked nose, removing bumps, or improving nasal symmetry can be a life-changing experience because it can provide a patient with a newfound self-confidence. Our results are always sophisticated, nuanced, and ultra natural-looking.

If you’re interested in a nose job in Austin, you may be a great candidate. Ideal candidates are individuals who are in good general health, do not smoke, and understand what a rhinoplasty can accomplish. How is a rhinoplasty performed?

Rhinoplasty is performed under general anesthesia. Typically, small incisions are made on the base of the nose and inside the nose. This allows the surgeon to properly reshape the nose and make precise adjustments as small as a millimeter. At Austin Face & Body, we also offer preservation rhinoplasty. This specialized technique is primarily for individuals looking to address a dorsal hump, and it focuses on preserving as much of your own tissue as possible. Historically, rhinoplasty has involved removing a significant amount of your native cartilage and bone, which can result in poor nasal support and subsequent nasal breathing issues and deformities with time. Preservation rhinoplasty can achieve your desired aesthetic result while maintaining nasal support so your result lasts a lifetime. The surgery takes a few hours and does not require an overnight hospital stay.

Rhinoplasty recovery and results

Rhinoplasty recovery can take up to two weeks, but it’s wise to plan four weeks of healing time before any sort of social event. Stitches and a cast are removed 1 week after surgery. Patients generally experience a stuffy nose feeling during recovery along with swelling, bruising, and minor discomfort are common as well. The swelling will go down significantly in two weeks’ time and will continue to fade over the next several months. For all the swelling to resolve, it takes a full year. The amount of swelling can often be alarming to patients, but please be aware that swelling after a rhinoplasty is normal and takes time to go down.

To minimize swelling as much as possible, we advise patients to keep their head elevated and use cold packs frequently during the first week after surgery. There are also medications such as arnica and bromelain that can help reduce swelling and bruising. You will need to follow every instruction provided by our staff for post-operative care. Our staff is available to help with any questions or concerns you may have about recovery after your nose job in Austin.

Rhinoplasty FAQ

Is rhinoplasty covered by insurance?

Because rhinoplasty is typically performed to correct cosmetic imperfections, insurance companies do not usually cover it. If you are having trouble breathing and a nose job is medically necessary, however, your insurance carrier may cover part or all of your treatment. If not, we can help you to apply for financing.

Are there any risks with nose surgery?

Risks associated with rhinoplasty include anesthesia reactions, bleeding, injection and nosebleed. In general, nasal reshaping is a very safe procedure and complications tend to be quite minor. We adhere to the highest safety standards and operate conservatively to minimize risk.

How old do I have to be to get a nose job?

Rhinoplasty can be performed as soon as the nose has finished growing. This typically occurs at around age 15 for girls, and age 17 for boys. If you are younger than 18, you will need parental permission to undergo surgery.

Will I have any visible scars?

Any visible scars are minimal, hidden in the natural folds of the skin.

When can I return to work after my nose surgery?

Most patients can return to sedentary work in 1-2 weeks.

Will rhinoplasty fix my deviated septum?

Rhinoplasty alone will not fix a deviated septum, but can be combined with septoplasty to resolve breathing problems.

When can one expect to see the final results after rhinoplasty?

The final results of rhinoplasty become more apparent as swelling subsides over several weeks to months. Individual healing times vary, but patients typically notice significant improvements within a few weeks post-surgery.

How soon after rhinoplasty can glasses be worn again?

Patients are usually advised to wait a few weeks before wearing glasses after rhinoplasty to allow for initial healing. Your surgeon will provide specific guidance based on your individual recovery progress.
