Improve Appearance and Comfort

For women who want to improve the appearance or comfort of their labia minora and/or labia majora, a surgical labiaplasty in Austin may be needed to reduce the length or asymmetry.

What is a labiaplasty?

A labiaplasty is a vaginal rejuvenation plastic surgery procedure that modifies the enlarged or elongated labia minora (inner vaginal lips) and/or the labia majora (outer vaginal lips) to improve aesthetic appearance and/or comfort for the patient. Some women dislike the way their labia looks, and others experience discomfort in their daily life due to the size. For some women, both of these issues are a problem. Labiaplasty procedures at Austin Face & Body are customized to each specific patient to get the absolute best results to improve confidence and quality of life.

Why get a labiaplasty?

A labiaplasty procedure can help a patient both emotionally and physically. Emotionally, a woman who dislikes the appearance of her labia may have trouble with intimacy, confidence, and self-esteem.

Physically, a woman with overly large labia may experience discomfort, irritation, itching, hygiene problems, and trouble wearing swimsuits or tight-fitting clothing. A labiaplasty can be the solution to all of these issues.

Why do some women have overly large labia?

Enlarged or elongated labia minora and/or labia majora is very common, and there are several reasons why women have this issue. Some women develop the change after pregnancy or having children. For many, it’s simply genetic. Each woman is different, and will require a different surgical plan. This is why a consultation with an experienced, board-certified surgeon is important.

Am I a candidate for labiaplasty?

You may be an ideal candidate for labiaplasty in Austin with our team if you:

  • Are embarrassed by the shape and/or size of your labia
  • Experience pain during sex due to your labia
  • Are unable to participate in certain activities due to discomfort caused by your labia
  • Have frequent yeast infections and other hygiene concerns because of your labia

What is the surgery like?

Labiaplasty is an outpatient procedure that typically takes one to two hours. It can be done under either local anesthesia with oral sedation, or under general anesthesia.

Recovery and results

Patients should schedule a week off from work to recover at home. The labia will be a little tender and sore after surgery, but swelling and pain can be reduced with cold ice packs. You may also be prescribed or recommended medication. All swelling should be gone by six weeks. During recovery, patients should wear loose clothing to avoid friction and should avoid exercise and strenuous activities. Tampons and sexual intercourse should be avoided for four to six weeks. The scars from the procedure will be hidden in the natural folds of the labia, so they will not be seen.
